Slovak racing ace Richard Gonda made his mark with famed Andretti Autosport at a test in Indianapolis

 

Every year, Amercian racing’s top youngsters get the opportunity to show their skills at the IndyLights two-day Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit.

 

This year, Slovak racing shooting star Richard Gonda managed to grab a drive with renowned Andretti Autosport at last weekend’s test event.

 

The 22-year-old was one of a total of 43 drivers in the intriguing mix of IndyLights veterans and rookies.

 

Following technical issues on the opening day, the 2013 European F3 Open Copa Class champion set the second fastest time on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course which utilizes portions of the famed Brickyard oval on day 2.

 

“It’s been quite a challenge with a lot of new things to learn and understand. The car and mostly the tires needs a lot different approach to what I was used in this season. We finished on P2 and P4. So I am pretty pleased considering it was my first time in an IndyLights car and at that track.”, Gonda was delighted.

 The Banska Bystrica native, who is currently engaged in Formula One’s support GP3 Series, is considering a move to US racing.

“It was great fun and we had two fantastic days of testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway also thanks to amazing Andretti Autosport. Racing here is certainly an option, but for now, we will fly back home, sit down with our sponsors and work out a plan for 2017.”
